20 Life Lessons That Will Change Your Life

20 Valuable Life Lessons

  • Always be your authentic self otherwise you will eventually start to lose yourself over time. Instead of being a follower, be a leader, otherwise, you will be going down someone else’s path instead of your own. You will become someone you are not just to please other people or to be liked. The crazy thing is if you like yourself just the way you are, not only will you automatically attract people, but you will attract the right tribe.
  • Listen to your intuition, it is NEVER wrong. I have had to learn this the hard way as I am sure many others have. Unfortunately, it has come at a high price for me so I think it should be one of the top 3 things on people’s list.
  • Life is too short to work at a job you hate. I would rather work two part-time jobs that I love then one job that I am miserable at. Time is limited so DO NOT waste it at a dead-end job, a job that doesn’t respect you, a job that doesn’t challenge you, or make you happy.
  • Your self worth will always be in your hands. If you know your path and set your own rules, you will always go in the right direction.
  • Take every mistake as a lesson learned and do your best not to repeat it.
  • Don’t drink too much for several reasons. First, hangovers are the worst. There literally isn’t anything good about them and you usually do stupid stuff that you regret. Second, drinks cost a lot of money. Try adding them up and see how much you would have saved if you just had one drink and not the countless others. You will be surprised by how much you spend. Better to save the money for a rainy day, a trip, or pay off credit cards.
  • Never stop yourself from pursuing your passions because you’re afraid of what others might think.
  • Everything in life is a choice. This is your life and you get to choose who you want and don’t want in it.
  • Had a bad day? You will be amazed by what a long hot shower and clean sheets can do for you.
  • Dogs are truly the best creatures on this planet. They will always love you when you need it most and are the best listeners.
  • Helping others is not only good for the person you’re helping but good for your soul.
  • Do not forget to breathe. Sounds silly right? But it is so important because we tend to hold our breaths, which causes us to tense our bodies when something goes wrong. Instead, take slow deep breaths, so your brain and body can process the situation in a calm matter. When you are calm you will respond better to any situation usually without any regrets.
  • Learn how to manage your time. Create a schedule and stick to it. If something comes up just make sure to leave room for you to finish what you had planned the next day so that it doesn’t get pushed aside and forgotten. Over time it starts to build up and this is when people go into overwhelm.
  • Get enough sleep otherwise, your brain and body will pay for it later.
  • Do not stress over things that truly do not matter or you have no control over. Hand it over instead to the universe and trust all will be okay.
  • Make healthy choices with your life. Whether that’s the food you eat, what you drink, how you exercise your body, yearly checkups, mental health, etc…
  • Less is more…Trust me on this one. The less you have the more time you have. The less you have the easier it is to keep your environment clean and organized. The less you have the more opportunities you give the universe to bring in new and better things. The less you have the more freedom you have and freedom is priceless.
  • Never stop learning. Read, read, read. Wisdom is key to unlocking so many doors. Plus, being knowledgeable is sexy (as long as you’re not a know it all). Besides reading self-help and personal development books, also be aware of what is going on in the world. I absolutely love reading The Skimm.
  • Debt is the enemy. Avoid it at all costs. If you find yourself in it, don’t panic, instead, create a plan to get rid of it. Start from your smallest debt and work your way up. It’s a process but life-changing if you do it right. If you need help listen to Dave Ramsey’s podcast or read his book Total Money Makeover.
  • Never Settle. Whether it is a significant other, a job/career, school, or a dream never settle for less than you deserve. The world is filled with too many opportunities to settle for less. People settle out of fear, but fear is not real, and only exists in our imaginations. Settling can feel comfortable, but life is about the unexpected journey and everything it has to offer because the universe knows what we need more than we do.
