De-Stress with Adult Coloring
ADULT COLORING FOR STRESS
We have all seen hundreds of adult coloring books printed these past few years like crazy. Why is that? Is there something magical about coloring? I know my daughter loved it as a child and would spend hours coloring while I worked around the house. She seemed to be in the zone when she did it not aware of anything else going on. As adults, we may not think about coloring but I know not thinking about our troubles sounds good. Maybe there is a good thing going on with the idea of coloring. I thought it was worth a shot to look into the benefits of how to de-stress with adult coloring.

PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS OF COLORING
I know as parents teaching our kids to color inside the lines is a big deal. I am not sure why because eventually our kids will learn how to. What is nice about coloring pages is that the lines are thick so it is easy to stay inside the lines. And for those of us who do not want to stay inside the lines, who cares, we have no one to tell us otherwise. When you color carefree (like a child) something magical happens. You stop thinking about being perfect and you feel free. Free to color inside or outside the lines. Free to make a choice. Free to forget about your worries and just focus on the page and colors in front of you. It is a time to relax.
Now I am not saying that coloring is equal to therapy but it does make us focus our attention on something that is not stressful. What happens when we do non-stressful things? Our minds and bodies relax and open us up to new possibilities. Our thought pattern gets interrupted, even if just for a little while. During this time, we go back to childhood, where things were as simple as just trying to stay inside the lines. Oh and the colors we use help to express and release our emotions. The best part, coloring can be done by anyone. You don’t have to be an artist or even creative, you just have to color. Make sure to use a color medium you love and that does not smudge. There is nothing more frustrating than working on a project and have it ruined.
Below are my favorites because they are rich in color and can be used for much more than adult coloring. I use them in my bullet journal and also in my planner.

5 REASONS WHY ADULT COLORING THERAPY IS GOOD FOR YOU
- Your mind relaxes by entering a meditative state.
- Worries get left behind and your mind opens up to new possibilities.
- You go into a childlike focus where imagination is everything.
- Taking a break from technology is good for your brain.
- Coloring gives you the freedom and freedom is known to reduce stress.
I do not know about you but all of those 5 reasons on how to de-stress with adult coloring sound good to me to pick up a coloring page and markers, colored pencils, gel pens, crayons, etc. And if coloring can calm our children down and help them focus, why can’t it do the same for us adults. While coloring is not technically a form of therapy it can be therapeutic so why not give it a try.
Another great thing about coloring is you do not have to do it alone. You can grab a few girlfriends, drink some hot tea (or wine), play some music, and give yourselves a break from life hassles. So take some time and go back to when life was simple. To help you out I have adult coloring pages printables you can download below.
